 Post subject: colour coding in montessori maths

How and why is the colour coding used im Montessori mathematics programme? what is the significance and aspect? please explain in detail from number rods through to operation board.

I'm not sure but my guess would be to make it more visual (visual learning) for the child.

For any counting you need a unit. Number rod is a quantity of variable. you need to show the units clearly. Red and Blue because they are of maximum contrast. They are primary colours.
Similarly, we have red, blue and green for dynamic cards. and same colour with short bead frame, then we move on to notation paper where you get to see the same colour lines which high lights the position of the hierarchy. By working in this sequence,child can read number with out any help. It is a sensorial impression.
Once we start second level in arithmetic, we give colour codes. Which remains same through out extending into primary also.
