Hi,

I am a stay at home Mum of a 3 year old girl named Lucie. Right now I don't know what decision to take in regards to the future education of my daughter. I am tempted to homeschool her as I feel I could spend more time with her going through various materials. On the other hand, I do want her to share and interact with other children of her age.

Can anyone on the forum comment on the pros and cons of homeschooling ?

Thanks

Barbara

Hello Again,

In case anyone read my post, just a little update. My husband and I have (at least since my post) discussed for many hours the pros and cons. Here is what we have come up with thus far...

Cons to Homeschooling:
1. Mum is also the teacher
2. Location of classroom is the same as location of the home
3. Montessori is based on the idea that children not only learn through teacher-taught lessons but also through their interactions with other children.
4. Lucie may quickly get bored in our small home
5. Will I get tired of being the teacher and Mum?

Pros to Homeschooling:
1. Knowing how much time (in terms of actual hours) one teacher is able to spend with a given child in a classroom, Lucie would be getting about 50% one-on-one time with me (the teacher) than if she were to be in a classroom with other children.
2. Being her Mum, I know her better than anyone and therefore can truly guide any lesson to her personal interested.
3. School would be less of a precise time than lessons throughout the day, therefore leading to a less "school-like" feeling for Lucie.
4. More possibilities of "educational outings" throughout the week.
5. (This may sound very high of me but still...) I think I could do better than anyone else.
(Feeling slight shame at this comment but i will still post it this way)

So we are still where we were a month ago.
